INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING FREE PAPERS

Abstracts of original papers are being accepted for the Pan-American Regional Course - Chilean Ophthalmology Congress 2026, to be held in Santiago, Chile. Papers from all subspecialties of ophthalmology are welcome.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING ABSTRACTS

Abstracts will be received through the course's web platform. The deadline has been extended to Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (Chile time).

REQUIREMENTS

Papers will be accepted in Spanish or English, where the main author must be a Chilean/foreign ophthalmologist or ophthalmology resident, with no maximum number of co-authors per paper. The main author must be enrolled in the course, and the paper must not have been previously published in order to be accepted. Accepted papers must be presented in the language used in the abstract submission.

For scientific interest and solely as a means of dissemination, scientific papers that have been previously presented at other international conferences may be submitted.

METHODOLOGY

Abstracts will be evaluated by the scientific committee, which will assign them a score based on their content, originality, scientific rigor, design, and relevance.

Abstracts must be structured and contain the following sections: objective, methods, results, and conclusions, with a total of 350 words including spaces (check using Word's word count tool).

Authors may choose to submit their work in one category. The Scientific Committee aims to keep the submitted works in the same category. However, the committee reserves the right to reassign them to an alternative category, after notifying the author.

AWARD CEREMONY

The best papers and posters will be highlighted at the closing ceremony, which will consist of awards for the best in each category and honorable mentions.

The authors of the selected papers must agree to publish them in the journal of the Chilean Society of Ophthalmology (Iris Journal), unless they are sent to another indexed journal.

ACCEPTANCE OR REJECTION

The acceptance or rejection notification will be sent hasta 16 de Febrero del 2026.

The authors of the best abstracts and posters will be asked to submit a full version of their work to compete for the conference awards. Despite this initial selection, if there are other outstanding presentations in the different modules, they may be considered as candidates for the best work of the conference. The best papers will be presented in a joint multi-specialty session where they will compete for the awards of the Pan-American Regional Course - Chilean Ophthalmology Congress 2026.

 

SUBMISSION OF WORK SUMMARY

A summary of no more than 350 words, including spaces, must be submitted in Spanish or English. Accepted papers must be presented in the language used in the summary submission.

Information to be included on the first page: Name of the main author and co-authors, as well as their affiliation(s), and the email address of the researcher in charge. This page is excluded from the character count.

The summary should be structured and should describe: objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.

Title: It should adequately describe the work and should not indicate where the work was done.

Objective: What question does the study answer or what hypothesis does it test?

Methods: What is the study design? Clinical trial, case series, cohort study, or cross-sectional study. Prospective or retrospective. Interventional or descriptive. Characteristics of study subjects, inclusion and exclusion criteria. Intervention and primary outcome variable. Statistical analysis performed.

Results: Present your results in a logical and consistent sequence.

They must answer the research question posed.

Conclusion: Describe the clinical significance, value of the study, and its applicability, if applicable.

Figures: As additional information, you can add up to 2 images (figures, tables, exam photos, etc.) with a minimum resolution of 200 dpi, using jpg or gif format.

Abstracts should use as few abbreviations as possible. The first time a term is used, it should be written in full, with the abbreviation in parentheses.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically via the conference website, in the section provided for this purpose. Handwritten abstracts or those submitted by any means other than the section provided will not be accepted. You will be notified of receipt.

Abstracts containing statements such as “will be studied,” “will be analyzed,” or “studies underway” will not be selected.

The abstract must be carefully proofread by the author. Conciseness, clarity, and care in the preparation of the abstract will be taken into account by the selection committee. Typographical errors reveal careless work. Any paper whose abstract does not comply with the above rules will not be processed by the Scientific Committee and will therefore be considered rejected.

A certificate will be awarded to all authors (and/or co-authors) of selected papers that have been effectively presented during the conference.

How to submit your resume?

  1. The corresponding author must set up a user account on the e-Abstract® website. Note: You will need to wait for a confirmation email once the account has been created. If you already have an account, you do not need to complete this step.
  2. Once the corresponding author has an active account on the e-Abstract® site, they can log in and submit the abstract through it.

After setting up a new account, you must wait to receive a confirmation email from the system administration. Once you receive this confirmation, you will be able to access your active account on eAbstract and submit an abstract using the online system. For support or inquiries, please email anastasia@econgress.cl. Once the corresponding author has an active account, they can enter their abstract into the system.

As the corresponding author of the abstract, you will be able to access it for review and editing until the submission deadline.
